With 40 more people recovering from the viral illness, 1, 124 patients survived the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the country’s health department stated, Saturday.
The Department of Health (DOH) reported 156 new cases raising the nationwide count to near 9,000-mark at 8,928 while the death toll stands at 603, with 24 more patients succumbing to the coronavirus.
The DOH recently clarified that the number of new infections may change in real-time upon validation prior to the official public announcement.
The department also revealed that the worst-case scenario is that the pandemic will last until January next year if there will be “no intervention”.
The testing capacity of the country, DOH added, did not reach the target 8,000 tests daily by end of April however assured that it will continue to bolster capacity with new test kits.
Duterte, on the recommendation of the Interagency Task Force, has placed the entire country under General Community Quarantine while Enhanced Community Quarantine is still in place in areas where the number of cases is high like Metro Manila.
