The Department of Health reported on Monday, that there are eighty new individuals considered Patients Under Investigation (PUI) in the country amid the new coronavirus.

DOH reported further that 67 were placed in isolation while 10 have been released as they were tested negative for the virus.

“Meron po tayong 80 pasyente na tinaguriang [patients] under investigation or PUIs para sa ating,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said in a press statement.

48 more patients are awaiting test results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), says DOH. These patients are included in the 80 PUIs recorded by health experts.

The reason for this increase, according to Duque, was the expanded definition of patients under investigation. This was made amid the rising fears for the spread of the virus in the country for a stricter and more comprehensive measures to ensure that Filipinos are safe from the virus. As of now, no Filipino is reported positive for the deadly virus. However, health officials continue to urge the public to be more vigilant to avoid contracting the virus or any other illnesses while the virus is not yet under control.
