President Rodrigo Duterte accepted the apology of ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak and said that he will leave the decision on the pending franchise bill to the Congress.

Katigbak apologized after the 2016 advertisement mess when the media giant, ABS-CBN failed to air the advertisement of then presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte. The airing of the advertisement paid for by Antonio Trillanes against Duterte also sparked his [Duterte] anger towards the network.

He clarified that the network was just following regulations which led to the approval on the airing of Trillanes' ad.

ABS-CBN likewise failed to refund 2.6 million-worth of unaired political advertisements, which on the request of the President be donated to any charity.

Katigbak said that they are "grateful" and "humbled" with the acceptance of apology and the network will continue to serve the Filipino people by "providing more meaningful services."

The bid of the network for franchise remains pending in the Congress which legislators urge to be immediately discussed as the franchise of ABS-CBN is set to expire on May 4.
