25,00 testing kits have already been delivered to five subnational laboratories that are expected to hasten testing of persons under investigation and persons under monitoring, according to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.
Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu, San Lazaro Hospital in Manila, Baguio General Hospital, and Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City can now expect to receive results sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), the country's leading facility on COVID-19 tests within 24 to 48 hours, Vergeire added.
The Department of Health underscored that the testing kits delivered were donated by the Chinese government.
Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration is implementing strict protocol before issuing certifications on local test kits, according to Health Secretary Francisco Duque.
Based on DOH's online tracker as of March 27, only 2,147 COVID-19 tests have been undertaken and 722 persons under investigation and 6,321 others under monitoring are waiting to get tested.
