MANILA - Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia quit on his post as the country deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
In his statement, Pernia said that the resignation is ‘due partly to personal reasons’ and ‘differences in development philosophy’ with some of his fellow cabinet members.
"I would like to thank the President for appointing me to the position. It has been an honor and privilege to have served the country under his administration for the past nearly 4 years," Pernia said.
Duterte accepted the resignation and appointed Finance Undersecretary Karl Chua as acting secretary of National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea confirmed 17 minutes after Pernia filed his resignation.
Chua, who is a former senior economist at the World Bank, will take over to tackle important national economic strategies to recuperate from a dipping economy due to the COVID-19.
