Philippines records the highest number of COVID-19 cases in ASEAN region

Philippines is now on top of the ASEAN country with the most number of COVID-19 cases as of the evening of April 13 according to a report of ASEAN Post via Twitter.


This data was also confirmed by Earth-Shaker PH, a science-based organization in the country. Philippines surpassed neighboring country Malaysia after reporting a total of 4, 932 COVID-19 cases on Monday.


Today, the Department of Health reported that the country has now went beyond the 5,400 mark of COVID-19 cases with a total of 5, 453 confirmed coronavirus cases.


Meanwhile, Worldometer.info, a live statistics site has reported that on April 15, a number of cases amounting to 1.9 million have been reported around the world.


The Department of Health is now in close collaboration with other government agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on the measure the nation will take against COVID-19.


President Rodrigo Duterte extended the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) until April 30, 2020. Further studies are being conducted on the measures of lifting, extension or selected lockdown as the numbers of confirmed cases continue to rise.


Mass testing was already started in the Philippines thru combined efforts of the government agencies, NGOs and private sector who are buying international and local-made test kits to increase testing capacity.
