The Department of Information and Communications (DICT) said on Wednesday, January 22, that classrooms, workplaces and communities will be made digital—thanks to the additional 10 billion government budget for 2020.
Senator Sonny Angara, Finance Committee Head of the Senate articulated that this is the country’s answer to the technological shift and the demand of Filipinos who are becoming more and more tech-savvy each year.
The budget increase will allow the department to create free public Wi-Fi services in different areas of the country such as schools and offices and establish national government data center that will aid on cloud computing, web hosting, server co-location and other operations.
“This would mean better service for the taxpayers and the public,” Angara said.
The Government Emergency Communication System (GECS) will also be included in the budget which will grant emergency communications system in disaster-hit areas, and the National Government Portal which will serve as a one-stop destination for all government content.
