Following the confirmation of the first case of 2019 novel coronavirus, Senator Risa Hontiveros urged the government to impose a China-wide travel ban effective immediately to halt spread of the virus.
Hontiveros suggested ban on air and sea travel in which docking of ships from in any of the ports in the country will be prohibited.
“I urge the government to immediately impose a travel ban on all individuals traveling from China and all travelers who have passed through China in the past two weeks,” Hontiveros posted in her page.
She also urged the Bureau of Quarantine to act on the implementation of mandatory quarantine and studying of safety measures of other countries with confirmed nCoV cases.
Local community surveillance is also being sought for as she reminded that public health officials must remain vigilant.
Hontiveros likewise asked for the Overseas Filipino Workers to be repatriated back to the country who are in fear of possible exposure from the virus.
The Department of Health announced that a 38 year old female from Wuhan City is the first case of nCoV in the country.
