Senate Panel on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality will be investigating into the links of illegal POGO and government officials after a Taiwanese National Lai Yu Cian (or Ivy) surfaced Wednesday to testify on cases of human trafficking in offshore operations.
Senator Risa Hontiveros, who is the chairman of the committee said that they will be looking into involvement of government executives following Lai’s revelation of “protectors” from the government.
“Hindi pwedeng may mga protektor itong mga ilegal na POGO, lalung-lalo na at nagdadala yung operasyon nila ng sankatutak na krimen,” Hontiveros said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
Lai’s testimony likewise revealed a certain “Michael Yang” and other abusive Chinese national bosses involved
“I even tell them all the thing I want is my passport, if you don’t give my salary, it’s okay. But they still keep lying to me … and they always say that there are government people, or a government person to protect their business,” Lai said in a press conference Wednesday.
Hontiveros is yet to verify if “Michael Yang” is the same Michael Yang that was a former economic adviser of President Duterte.
