Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto announced on Saturday that some 200,000 Pasig City households not included in the approved list of DSWD for the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) will also receive cash aid of P8,000 from the City government.
“Mauuna pong mabibigyan ang nasa listahan ng DSWD (printing na po tayo ng 93K forms). Pagkatapos nito, bibigyan din natin ang mga iba pang nangangailangan pa. Mga 200K na pamilya po ito.” Mayor Vico said in a Facebook post. Sotto said that they used the data collected in 2019 for the distribution of Pamaskong Handog to identify all beneficiaries.
Pasig City initially identified 206,000 families qualified for SAP but only 93,000 were approved by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and Department of Finance.
On April 7, the Metro Manila Council (MMC) passed a resolution asking the DSWD and the DOF to reinstate the “original number” of beneficiaries of the social amelioration fund “in the higher interest of preserving public order, safety, and health, and for the 17 LGUs (local government units) to effectively perform their duties and functions.”
This resolution was a result of LGUs’ cries regarding the rigid “quota system” in cash aid distribution.
